They would feel all unaccompanied in a new setting. Thus, the tradition of ‘friends for life’ started in the form of this celebration. The fast starts from sunrise, when the women eat ‘Sargi’, a food prepared by their mother-in-law in the early morning. After eating the soggy, those keeping the fats are essential to stay without having water and food all day long until the moon can be seen in the darkness. Devotees worship Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and the moon.

Women prepare for the celebration by putting henna on their hands and get ready as brides. They wear new, red-colored clothing and red bangles etc.

In the sunset, a prayer is offered in a temple by the assembly of fasting women, this is done for the longevity and happiness of their husbands. They sit in a circle with their pagan Thalia, each woman places a Karwa a pitcher full of water, and seven pieces of sweet, a sweet made in the form of a triangle, in the thaali. It is decorated with open, kharia, a little red rule. A red thread is too tied around the water pots.

A woman or the temple Pandits chant the tale or the Karwa Chauth Vrata Katha. The women then pray for the longevity and safety of their husbands, while chanting the prayer; they pass their thaalis to each other in the ring.

They then wait for the moon to go up in the night. As soon as the moon is seen, worship is offered to the moon. The fasting women first see the moon through a strainer and then their husband to the same strainer. Then they break their fast by offering a piece of Prasad to the moon.
